In case you hadn’t heard, we are in uncharted territory. Donald Trump’s historic win in November will pay dividends in no time at all, when he takes the oath of office in less than two weeks at an inauguration that ushers in a new era.
Vice President-elect Mike Pence declared that by the end of his first day, Trump will have used his newfound power to overturn many of the executive orders issued by Barack Obama during his eight years in office.
Then the fun part begins.
Republicans are tasked with repealing and replacing Obamacare, something Bernie Sanders and leading Democrats now claim will Make America Sick Again.
He had another moment that mattered this week too, so in case you missed it here are a few fun things from Washington for the week of Jan. 2:
Bernie’s life-size Tweet poster brings the laughs to the internet
While issuing demands to President-elect Trump on the Senate floor on Thursday, everyone’s favorite wild-haired Washingtonian Bernie Sanders decided to bring a giant replica of a @realDonaldTrump Twitter message to belabor his point.
The internet had a good time with it, making several memes in the short span of a few hours, after the 74-year-old delivered his speech on the Senate floor calling for Trump to uphold his promise to make no cuts in Social Security or Medicare.
Fox News’ Sean Hannity sits down with Wikileaks’ Julian Assange

A strange pairing indeed, to see silver-haired hacker extraordinaire Julian Assange alongside the clean-cut conservative TV personality Sean Hannity. The interview (above) aired from inside the Ecuadorian embassy, where Assange is being held for fear of extradition to the United States for his transparency efforts.
The pair spoke over the virtuosity of Wikileaks’ work as a whistleblower organization, their reasons for focusing on powerful state actors, and the why Assange believes governments retain state secrets and mislead the public with modern propaganda.
Trump cited Assange in a tweet shortly after, as he ramps up his criticism of a perceived political “witch hunt” by the intelligence community who blames Russia for the hacked emails.
Trump’s tweets bring Detroit the money
At least, the timeline of events might have you believe that. Almost as soon as Trump tweeted that General Motors would face a stiff border tax for creating its Chevrolet cars inside of Mexico, rival carmaker Ford Motor Corps. announced it would scrap plans to construct a $1.6 billion plant in Mexico.
Instead, the company said, it would invest $700 million more in the Detroit auto making scene. Pro-Trump publications are already labeling him the “Job Creator-in-Chief” for his efforts to retain U.S. manufacturing on behalf of Rust Belt workers who helped him into the White House.
Guess who’s being asked to pay for the border wall?
Hint: Not Mexico. Congress is already being lobbied by the president-elect to include funding for his “beautiful” border wall in this year’s budget deal in order to “speed up the process.”
Trump insists, however, that soon after the wall begins to materialize that the Mexicans will start paying building costs. His planned renegotiation of the NAFTA deal would contain language that requires their cooperation with the costs. “It’s going to be part of everything,” Trump told the New York Times. “We are going to be making a much better deal. It’s a deal that never should have been signed.”
